We get our first taste of Summer like humidity here tomorrow with 18C dewpoints but it wll be under cloudy skies.

GFS not looking as cold in the upper levels as few days ago, downgrade thunder chances with this system, some cold upper air tracks across NZ Friday but surface conditions may spoil

It's making sleeping difficult for me. Heaven knows how I'd manage any sleep in somewhere like Darwin without Air Conditioning.

Lots of people here are pleased to see a little rain, it's been very dry with little rain in November.

Just had an odd occurance in Takapuna.. its been mostly cloudy with not much to speak about, good visibility generally, the odd spotty light rain.. then suddenly while I was working just now, a fog bank rolled in from the sea, accompanied by strong winds and higher air temperature. Have a video uploading, you can see the fog blowing past buildings.

I have seen the sea fogs roll in on the North Shore in the past, they can look impressive. Its an unsual case of warm advective fog.

Looking from Auckland airport westward - talk about BLACK!!! Radar showing some good activity. Inbound flights off the Tasman taking some detouring around the cells.

Back in the late 80's when I was working in Takapuna, we had one that lasted until about 3pm. You could see it drifting up and down the street like smoke. Every time it looked like clearing, a new lot would roll in. It was about 23 degrees at the time and the whole place smelled like seaweed.

Edited to add: Just heard a long rumble of thunder here in Glenfield.

Someone on Newstalk ZB at the moment saying a tornado just went through Hobsonville Point. Big light tower taken down. Not sure if it was actually straight line winds, but damage certainly done.
