21C/20dp 95% humidity with a good breeze. Hate to think what it would be like without the breeze. Very tropical ATM.

Very little temp change here for the last 24 hours - hovering just under 20 deg, with the DP 0.2 under it all the time.

Another muggy sticky day. Won't be overly hot. Just uncomfortable.

Merry Christmas to you all! Might be a cooler day here if the weather doesn't clear, dull grey skies with drizzle showers and currently 20C, fresh ENE wind

Ex-cyclone Evan near NZ, and Christmas Weather

Unread post by jamie »

I'm confused. Metservice have issued a severe weather watch for a number of places tomorrow for widespread showers possibly causing rainfall to reach warning criteria. Waikato is one of those place. Yet in their thunderstorm outlook our chances of storms looks rather weak. Maybe they will update the thunder outlook later today/tonight to match their severe weather watch.

Looking at latest gfs run some upper level warming coming onto the North Island tomorrow pm which is a spoiler for afternoon thunder over the Waikato.

Yes, the hottest there since 1934.
The 'forgotten' city of Upper Hutt must be much warmer as they have a different climate to Wellington.
Interesting too to see that Kaitaia was one of the centres that had today's maximum low, evan though, excuse the pun, it got to 21C.

Checking the MetService site the highest I saw today at Wellington was 28.6C, only a whisker shy of the Xmas day 28.7C in 1934 {December record is 29.1C on 28-12-1948}.

Upper Hutt may have got to about 31C provided there were no clouds overhead.

Pretty sure the real-time temps displayed on MS's website for Wgtn are from the airport.

Kelburn got to 28.6C yesterday according to this morn's obs.
