Re: General January Weather
I see M/S have a new blog...about AWS and temperature measurements, etc
nice
I see they mention the WOW system used in the UK (which I had some input into)
hopefully they adopt that system

Re: General January Weather
An early morning land breeze from the westerly quarter i noticed this morning blowing away the mist, that also helped to keep the NE out until lunch time other then that it was really still.
I think we could top 32C again tomorrow and close to 30C for Saturday.

Re: General January Weather
As RWood has said on weatherwatch i think those stations may have bad exposure as my station only reached 31.1C here in rangiora and another station in rangiora with a good setup only got to 30.6C, as for that oxford reading im sure its just some facebook post on there site- not sure i would post them in the media.

Re: General January Weather
They have it up on an article on their website also but yeah I'd be hesitant to post them in the media, it's always funny on their site to see people get over excited therefore some of the temperature readings people post are laughable.melja wrote:As RWood has said on weatherwatch i think those stations may have bad exposure as my station only reached 31.1C here in rangiora and another station in rangiora with a good setup only got to 30.6C, as for that oxford reading im sure its just some facebook post on there site- not sure i would post them in the media.

Yeah sounds abit off considering the station at work reached a maximum of 32.8C and thats just west of Cust, some 10 minutes east of Oxford.

Re: General January Weather
Low cloud back again this morning to start off the day. That will slow warming down before the easterly kicks in later in the day. Probably more around 25 here today then 30 but we shall see.

Re: General January Weather
is there any way of working out how much lower the average humidity was for for areas compared to normal? Im sure Jan gave us much lower huimidity than normal. No real sleeples nights that didnt drop below 20. No thunderstorms. Infact i dont think there were any cloud buildups worth mentioning for the month. Quite sad really.

Re: General January Weather
WD does calculate average dew point for the month
see under view, averages/extremes
and then compare that with say a year ago
(ricky shows no difference surprisingly)
It has been though like 1.7C warmer here than other Janurary's
26.5mm here for Janurary (corrected value)...11.5mm on the 3rd from a NW frontal rain system that places futher north missed (e.g Auckland city)

Re: General January Weather
I was just looking at average humidity myself this morning! Here the monthly average was 74.9%, the lowest I have recorded for a summer month since I started recording in Dec 2009jamie wrote:is there any way of working out how much lower the average humidity was for for areas compared to normal? Re: General January Weather

Re: General January Weather
but have we had higher temps? You have recorded warmer than usual at your station but i dont believe i would have. We have had cold nights frequently below 10 and days up around 26-27 sometimes up to 28-29. Thats just normal but usually we have the humidity as well.Manukau heads obs wrote:higher temperatures will give a lower humidity

Re: General January Weather
yeah, been warmer than normal here (mainly day time) because of the easterly winds...which heat up as the cross through the northern waikato
and less of the cooler sea breezes we normaly would get
Ricky is also much warmer in auckland city too, for similar reasons
