Now 7.6 degrees just like winter and a 20 knot southerly to go with it!

the wind flags seem about right for the southerly change, we guessed the S would arrive around 1am, well its cretainly on our door step in the next half hour or so. going by the radar. so the models are pretty acurate :)

Thanks for those video's, wow ,sooo much water

Just had a look at the rain gauge and there's 36mm,going to be some very happy farmers around here.

Cleared over night and turned westerly and whats left of the southerly change is heading out over CHCH out to sea,so will we get showers today from heat build ups??

30mm of rain here and a good coating of snow on the hills down to as low as 800m. Sunny clearing skies this morning and rather cold on 5 degrees.

Yep only 13 here this morning.. and the sun is out! Also 400mm in total for the event, MS were right on the ball with their rain predictions. The Grey River is an absolute monster this morning.

400mm for you on the coast Dale, and a paltry 60mm inland in Reefton.
I know that's not unheard of, but i wouldn't have thought the difference would be that significant.

Well I am fresh back from 6 days in the Wilkin and Siberia rivers near Makarora in Mt Aspiring National Park

There was 542mm since Saturday afternoon going by the nearest rain gauge one valley to the north of us at the Young Landslide site
http://water.orc.govt.nz/WaterInfo/Site ... =YoungRain

And I can tell you the thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday were seismic in size, I reckon the Siberia Hut was rattling similar in scale to a 4.5 quake with some of the thunderclaps- and lightning was damn close to hitting the vally floor around the hut given the proxmity. Absolutely insane few days, we extracted ourselves via helicopter yesterday. Nearly decided to drive home to ChCh up the coast but came via Lindis instead, luckily!

Have some vids and photos will try and post later

TV1 news tonight had a clip of tourists in the snow on the Lindis Pass Road. Looked nice with blue skies and a decent coating.

Bit cool down at Twizel ( lake Benmore) this morning with 4C and a good coating of snow on the hills after a stormy night again in the camp, most people have now left after days of rain on and off and a night of thunder on tuesday so now just the hardy season campers with caravans left - good morning to get out in the boat fishing tho.

A week later....finally got the computer working properly. Three short youtubes attached, one of the intense rain on 1/1/13 at Siberia Hut that lasted nearly 2 days and was accompanied by remarkable thunder. The other two are in the chopper flying down the engorged Wilkin and 'lake' Makarora. Enjoy

I'd imagine yesterday was an action replay
