Re: MetService Website (2013)
And I high of just 3C tomorrow, what a joke.
What gets me is how all these senor forecasters who work there just put up with this crap showing on there website, it really put there integrity and skill in question.
Also what kind of computer modelling they use has to be called into question too, if this is what they use to base there daily human produced forecasts on then its crap and sure must need a lot of moderating.

I don't take much notice of those forecasted temperatures, rainfall what ever. This site is not as good as their former one , sadly

Yeah, well they say that the 5 day forecasts are produced by the company's meteorologists and anything after that is done by their modelling system

And why shouldn't folk who are grazing the site believe what is on the pages, especially when as pointed out above its for the next 48 hours.03Stormchaser wrote:There website is quickly becoming a joke. It saddens me how the Metservice website is becoming such a laughing stock, when it could be so much more

Rumours are still there that MetService won't be in the same form down the track and perhaps this sloppiness could be an indicator?

Lots of repeats on it I find, and other things, not needed on it's front page

Re: MetService Website (2013)
I've noticed that MetServices's "Short Weather " forecasts on their Website are the same as what is read out on the RNZ National Radio.
Thinking, why are they the same, as where as the long range forecast around 12:30pm( after the news at 1pm on the WE) is worded a bit differently to what they say on the Website.
....also why do forecast have to be 'brief'?
Is there an extended worded forecast?
I looked around their site and there wasn't any?
Maybe it is hidden and you have to pay $99.9 for each word in the forecast...
... but wait, (as they say in a commercialised world:>) there's more..... and it's free

Re: MetService Website (2013)
I can't understand why the Bay of Plenty still gets free 120km res radar images, while other regions don't? The Rena threat is long gone, and yet Auckland gets more than its fair share of damaging tornadoes, microbursts, etc, especially given how densely populated it is. Surely it would be in the best interests of public safety? It's almost as though any extra revenue gathered from selling those higher res images to Aucklanders and other regions subsidises the Bay of Plenty and Christchurch. I know some will say 'be grateful for what you've got', but it doesn't really seem fair IMHO.
Ah well, there's always Weatherzone, despite the slight delay and imperfect overlays.

Re: MetService Website (2013)
Totally agree Nev. I'm sure someone asked Metservice that question on FB (?) and they said it would use too much bandwidth, (if I can recall correctly).
If all areas can't have high resolution rain radar then remove them from BOP and Canterbury then if any area is under a watch/warning, they should enable the higher resolution for the duration. So simple....

I would think its because the bulk of there paying customers come from Auckland so why give it away.

Re: MetService Website (2013)
Its a bit poor saying take it away from chch, its like if I cant have it then why should anyone else have it.

So it's okay to suggest that BOP doesn't need it but not ChCh? Why does Canterbury still need the high resolution radar?melja wrote:Its a bit poor saying take it away from chch, its like if I cant have it then why should anyone else have it.
My previous post makes sense - enable it for any area that may be under a watch/warning. Can't get much fairer than that.
