The stand out with this event has been the wind here, got to have been the worst weve had for a long time with some of the gusts up 130km surely, but also the light show last night would have to have been one of the most active/frequent for lightning ive ever seen.
The front seems to have weakened off considerably now though.

Brilliant lightning and long peals of thunder here between 1am and 2am, at times only 5 or 6 seconds between flash and crash.
Then rain began and wind died down.
(Now a sunny morning)

You're just not having much luck with S.I. bridges are you Brian?
Survived the morning only just.. about 1/6th of the total rainfall of the New Years Day storm.. but the peak wind intensities were the same, if not a little bit more, truly frightening. Was travelling at 4am this morning to work doing 80 km/h down State 6 and we were being overtaken by bursts of rain.

Easily, the most spectacular lightshow I have witnessed in years.. ground strikes, crawlers, you name it, this one threw everything at Greymouth this morning & it didn't disappoint!

judging from the very very frequent flashes observed from here and the way they rolled around, there would of been an excellent light show over there
The thunder would of been continuous. 8-o
