General February Weather
After just 15.6mm for the month and what felt to be a very dry (low himidity) Jan, we are looking for soome decent rain but this rain in early Feb looks pathetic and another high pushing in after that. Could be using that dredded D word soon.

Yup any rainfall that falls between now and the 6th will be evaporated if the next high decides to plonk itself where the other one did.jamie wrote:After just 15.6mm for the month and what felt to be a very dry (low himidity) Jan, we are looking for soome decent rain but this rain in early Feb looks pathetic and another high pushing in after that. We can only hope that the next high pressure system won't be a blocking high.

Re: General February Weather
New month not so sure how different its going to be, but 10-20mm coming up for a region that needs it overnight Sunday and later on Monday.
There might even be a decent thunder set up for Monday evening if the models stay in line, it will be fairly westerly for most of the day with early morning spill over rain then looks like a strong southerly later on.
From a qoute in the press this morning about todays temperatures not getting up there due to any possible early morning low cloud.... Its actually got nothing to do with the low cloud because once that clears the temperature will rocket up its the onshore NE and how strong it is that will put a cap on heating at the coast.
Yesterday classic example mist/fog first up with a westerly land breeze, it then cleared quickly with little to no wind until lunchtime by which time it had hit over 30C.

Re: General February Weather
24 the high today here but as Melja mentioned humidity much higher today and with an easterly breeze it made for a warm day still, but comfortable. GFS is showing perhaps a longer period of wet weather for reasonable area of the North Island next week now. Something to watch.

Yes great climate there in alex, hot sunny summers for all water sports and magic winters with more chance of snow than here in Chch.

Don't know about that, Seems recently most of the heavy snow is further north, With Southland Otago and Sth canterbury largely missing out.melja wrote: magic winters with more chance of snow than here in Chch.
Ended up reaching 31 degrees here in Fairlie this afternoon, could tell it was bit more humid than the last couple of days

Re: General February Weather
Someone needs to find a better site to record Alex. sunshine - perhaps up on a surrounding hill or at least higher ground. The numbers recorded at the currrent site are not very good at all, and a long way behind Cromwell (and lower than for older Alex. sites).Andy wrote:Alexandra temp last 7 days

Re: General February Weather
Clouding over with a light SW at the moment but should clear away later.
Looking forward to a bit of rain next week, just really to dampen the ground, but mind you , it has been a bit dewey on the odd morning this week
