Carrying on FWI talk from the February thread, WD says the FWI is 26 here today. Gone up maybe because of the increase in wind speed?

February 2008: Waikato in drought.

March 2013: Waikato 'not in drought'.

Seems to me it's simply the case the Government isn't as plush in the coffers as it once was.

Rain prospects still look very grim here with a south Tasman high next week, atleast southwest NZ will see some rain but with an autumnal feel to the weather down there.

Cloudy here today , a fresh drying southwest wind, low 18C, max 24C.

Has been moderate to fresh breeze from the south or SSE since mid-morning here; got up to 23 degrees;
high cloud coming in from the south, and more of the mares' tails on high.
Presently 21.3 degrees, still sunshine.

It seems farmers have agreed to ask a drought to be declared, but no official declaration yet:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/artic ... d=10868599
Waikato farmers have agreed to ask the Government to declare a medium-scale drought for the region and open up financial assistance to families struggling to pay for food.

Waikato Regional Council chairman Peter Buckley said a meeting this afternoon of the region's drought committee voted unanimously to call for a drought to be declared.

Golden land. Only green parts are weedy grass or long grass which is due to be grazed and is using the heavy dews in the morning for survival.

Its almost as if someone has stood on the hose in the garden and that water thats been sitting in the hose drips out :lol: , sums up the wee splash of rain we just got enough to put some damp patches on the ground but rather pathetic really 0_o .
I think thats it for that frontal system for here, there are some hints of weaker fronts coming into next week/weekend, which is good in a way it shows the highs are slowly becoming less dominant.

No hint of drizzle at all here today. Infact playing cricket today it was dead still and very muggy. Felt hot when the sun came out for periods. 23 the high but for a time felt warmer than that. Currently 17 at 10pm and very mild.
