General April Weather
Looks like a wet month?
Lots of thunderstorms?
Lots of fine but cooler days?
Will April show us what sort of winter we may get this year?

Whoosh!
Fresh to strong south-easterly has just rushed through.
Still blue skies and sunny, though.

Yes, much cooler weather on the way from mid week, the start of the cold season for NZ. The Auckland night temperature will drop below 10C later in the week for the first time in quite a while.

Re: General April Weather
Pretty calm in my Glenfield valley - barely enough breeze to turn the anemometer. Bit of harmless looking cumulus around, 21.8 at 1.40pm with 72% humidity and dewpoint of 16.5. Ground is still damp from last night's rain, so we must have had a few overnight showers. I must re-instate the rain gauge now the builders have finished in the garden.

Re: General April Weather
Yes a very clear day today started off cooler on 8C, but a return to gusty NW winds later on should see the temperature up around 27C.
Looking at tomorrow i would have thought there would be a thunder risk with some GFS maps plotting a low to cross Canterbury early afternoon before the southerly whips in, i expected to see a moderate risk south of christchurch and lower further north but theres nothing at all .
Thats some quite cold air coming in surly enough to produce good heafty hail showers etc.

Re: General April Weather
This system crossing the north of the country tonight is not weak.
But there is a question mark on just how precip we will get in Auckland.
Looks like there will be some heavy rain over Northland.
Some thunderstorm activity in the far north also.

Heavy showers and a gusty NE wind here in Nelson, 4mm so far. I think its safe to say the Dry spell here is over with around 90mm in the last 3 weeks.

Re: General April Weather
Nice mild day with scattered high cloud and northerly winds, a few spots of rain from early afternoon then the southerly hit around 3pm.
Temperature has dropped from 23C to 17C now, with some lower stratus filling the skies but still dry.
The rain band to the south seems to be on its way though.

Re: General April Weather
A showery patch moved through central and east Auckland this afternoon, I got rained on in the city around 3.10pm, and we got 1mm in Howick about 40 minutes later.
Not looking like much rain tomorrow unless you're in the far north

Re: General April Weather
A dry southerly by the look of it, sadly.Radar showing rain moving NW to SE, nothing developing from the SW change that went through here just after 2pm.

Re: General April Weather
It will edge up overnight and get us just wont be a huge amount, i see theres a few heavy showers with possibly some hail around North Otago at the moment so that will be the coldest of the air moving up.
Edit: a few strikes being plotted in that area on the tracker now, nice can it move up this way

Not sure why the gfs has -8C but I ignore numbers like that.Richard wrote:Do i see a -8 over where i am on there Steven?
The front over the North Island is providing more useful rain this morning!

Re: General April Weather
The forecasted rain for Wellington never appeared last night. So it's carry on as usual and keep hoping for more rain...
