Unstable Cold Trough April 5th-6th
Just thought i would create a new topic as this was reasonably eventful here and for other parts of the region, much easier to find for future reference etc.
Ive included tomorrow for the risk that covers parts of the North Island, Perhaps one of the admins could shift some of the posts into here .
Anyway the TCU line which developed overhead slowly shifted Northwards and as soon as there was hail stones falling with big rain drops i could see it was about to get active.
A reasonable amount of lightning seen not overly active as i expected more typical of wintry stuff with just 2-3 flashes every 5-6 minutes, but i managed to the get one lightning shot as per below.
I had the Trigger setting on low and i was also semi focused on the beam of the house as you will see, so next time i will be aware of that although i will hopefully be chasing in the open.
2.8mm from that with the majority of the storm hitting around Woodend northwards to Amberley.
I may get some of my footage up later on i will see what its like, but for now this is what i got.
Southerly hasnt hit yet but wont be far off by the looks.

Re: Unstable Cold Trough April 5th-6th
The energy with the upper trough is crossing us this morning and moving away in the afternoon. It comes through 6 hours too early with regards afternoon convection! However the upper air is still cold this afternoon so maybe isolated convection/shower. Was interesting to see the nice t/cu yesterday in the warm autumn sunshine.

A cool morning after a clear calm night, the heavy shower line coming off the warm sea on our west coast is weakening over the cool land,a Winter like situation. Light rain arriving here, feels cold at 10C after recent weather.

Steady cold rain falling at the moment. Very peacefull sound on the roof. It's hitting the southern side of the house which is the first time I've seen since I moved in here back in early October.

Re: Unstable Cold Trough April 5th-6th
Fairly cool this morning, hovering around 11°C with cool rain at times.
Clearance should come early to mid afternoon with a risk of isolated showers if SFC temps rise considerably.

Re: Unstable Cold Trough April 5th-6th
A cloudy day here but there was some remnants of yesterday's instability in the cloud forms especially later this afternoon with a spectacular CU congetsus line to the SE of here, which of course dissipating later.
Nice photos there, Tim. cloud forms looked similar to down here but no precip from them.
