Just spoke to the metservice guys the Whenuapai sounding indicated around 2300 j/kg of CAPE @ 00z.
I have double checked, the value my system has come up is a little lower but still 1700j/kg of CAPE in NZ is amazing!
More thunder to the west and the rain keep's on pouring down, nearing 40mm!
Update: 40mm now breached.

Seems there were thunderstorms in Northland and Waikato but hardly anything in between... we did get a light shower though with 0.6mm.

I agree! Seems everything slid either side of Auckland. Maybe there will be something with the next line that comes in.David wrote:Seems there were thunderstorms in Northland and Waikato but hardly anything in between... we did get a light shower though with 0.6mm.

Re: Thunderstorms Upper North Island - April 19th - 21st
back home now, as had 10 year with me, LOL
we got a nice heavy shower at home, 5mm, which I hit in waiuku...some lightning with that
I see another big line to move in from the tasman , in time for getting dark
great chasing in the waikato , closest lightning I have had for ages!
I will get a couple of photos up
ps, I heard on the radio of a small tornado in Raglan

Yes, a great day chasing around Hamilton/Huntly, a lot of lightning activity. Encounted hail and flooding near Hamilton around lunch time. A few photos from my day.

I went for a chase this afternoon. Here's a couple of the best of the pics. (They were taken in Pukekohe).

Any chance of a well overdue night time lightning display for Auckland?

Re: Thunderstorms Upper North Island - April 19th - 21st
Have returned home from a weekend in Hamilton to find a measly 8mm rain in the gauge, since Friday morning. By contrast, parents in Glenview (Hamilton) received 48mm in the hour from 12.30-1.30pm today.

Sporadic lightning to the west. Seen a couple strikes to the SE too. I want to see more lightning to the west before I attempt to take pictures.
