Re: Unstable Sunday 5th North Island
Wind has ramped up here from the NW now
gusts to 45 knots so far...
make that 48 knots (89kmh) now...
barometer dropping still, now 987
rain radar shows an area of even stronger WNW winds moving this way
also you can see the center of the low W of new plymouth....slow moving at the moment

Re: Unstable Sunday 5th North Island
Not too windy out this way, I've recorded 40 km/h max so far. Pretty unusual to get above 60 km/h in a NW flow here...

Certainly some heavy showers around, just got 5mm in 10 minutes. I see you're up to 56 knots Brian! (103 kph)
I wonder if you'll reach 130 kph overnight

I see the airport had a peak gust of 48knots early this morning. Grey Lynn only 30knots.
12Z NZWP sounding had 60knots at 850mb!

Unstable Sunday 5th North Island
Torrential in Glenfield and the road between us and the primary school flooded. That'll make for a pleasant walk for the first day back!

Re: Unstable Sunday 5th North Island
Assume you mean humdinger - a 'Humdinga' would probably capsize in this weather. lolspwill wrote:Humdinga weather here...
Only 8.6mm here so far since yesterday arvo, but no shortage of wind. I see the outer Gulf's Mokohinau Islands have been recording 80 km/h mean-winds this morn, so Waiheke's NW coasts probably wouldn't be too far off that.

Bucketing down in Takapuna and has been for the best part of an hour. Can't believe we don't have a heavy rain warning in force. Loads of surface flooding.

Re: Unstable Sunday 5th North Island
I see the low center is about to pass right over here
wind is easing more and more, baro dropping
988 is the pressure here...it had risen slowly overnight, so the low has been filling slowly overnight
should see a SW wind change here in the next few hours
update: baro dropped to 986.4
wind is now swinging more W as the low passes here
real tight center on the rain radar...rain band going around it..passing over Waiuku area now

Yeah, not often you see that Brian. Here's a pic for posterity…Manukau heads obs wrote:real tight center on the rain radar...rain band going around it..passing over Waiuku area now
Update: Centre of low on radar overlay appears to be about 40km too far Nth, i.e. should be over Waiuku.

Re: Unstable Sunday 5th to Monday 6th North Island
humm, the M/S rain radar showed the center passing right over Waiuku
(which is must have because we went from NW to W to SW)
somehow your land mass is not aligned correct there Nev?
this shows a 180o wind direction swing, Waiuku, as the low center passed over

Yeah, you're right Brian. That WZ image has it centred roughly over Hobsonville. Oh well.
