Thunder risk Tuesday 21st to Thursday 23rd May
For the west and north of the North Island. Most of the activity will be coastal to offshore, but isolated thunderstorms over land.
Tuesday we have a surface NNE flow which can be good but upper wind fields are weak.
Wednesday some jetstream support comes in.
Thursday the coldest upper air with a SW change.
A system to watch atleast.

Am thinking Wednesday afternoon could be good for you guys, haven't looked very closely at Thursday yet.
Tuesday has a chance as you say but storms may stay offshore, agreed.

There should be a bit of lightning out to the west of the North Island tomorrow evening. Could be worth going for a drive to the coast for lightning pics! Have to see what eventuates.

Dam would love to do that, could be a good idea! Hopefully you get something if activity looks good and you decide to go out.

Tomorrow looks like it could get interesting according to Metservice charts. Would like to see some decent hail and strong winds. Watching all the fotage coming from usa at the moment is giving me major cravings for decent storms.

Good looking band lining up the west coast right now, steep gradients.

Heavy shower drifting across the Manukau Harbour at present, looks to be just clipping the airport as it moves south.

Nothing observed or heard from Papakura, but man oh man - it is super dark across the entire western horizon!

reports of water spout off Big bay, manukau harbour
I could see the cloud lowering from here, but was not sure if it was funnel...was behind the hill too much
there was 2 of them even
