Yes, that's lousy. I have daily records for Kelburn back to 1954 - the MTD to 21st of about 36 hours is the lowest for that period, and I suspect for much longer than that (NIWA will add older records later they tell me). Our record low for June at any site, going back to 1907, was 61 hours in 1982. The lowest NZ monthly total that I think is authentic for sites with a good "horizon" was 35 hours at Invercargill in 1935.

This is what 210mm of rain and counting does in a month! Out and about this morning. Photos of the Heathcote River and the paddocks down the road from where I live.

new dairying in canterbury will be thinking maybe its not the land of milk and honey after all (at least this winter)
they will be wanting the snow to wash away off the winter crops so the cows can get to the winter feed
and will be thankfull the snow was not as much as could have been

Yes indeed. Just had a look at Jeffs records and to date this year in comparison to last year we have had around 200mm more than last year but with 8 less rain days. So when we have rain, it rains! this year it would seem.

Looks like we have finished with rainfall for the month here, outside chance of a shower later in the week but a high should bring fine days with very cold nights for most of the rest of the month. 228.5mm for the month.

Metservice well out with there forecast high of 6 for Timaru today, Currenty 11 there. For some reason after low level snow the next day there always seem to be a mildish WNW wind in south Canterbury.

'twas 3.7 deg. here shortly after your post, however it felt quite balmy compared to the past few days. Nice to have the NW or whatever it was to dry up the sop a bit ;-)

Chilly 3.1°C here this morning. The low was 3.8 as of 7.45am, so it's interesting to see the quick drop after the sun has already come up

General June Weather

Temp often does drop fast in the minutes after the sun rises.

Frozen fog here. This is my car which was dry as it was parked in the garage last night. 20 min drive to work and I have ice buildup on the windscreen wing mirrors and aerial.

its the same today, Light NW and reasonably mild with 11c currently at my place.

I see it got to 10 in Fairlie yesterday according to Metservice so would have been a good thaw up there.

Just got my new anemometer this morning (since the magnetic switch keeps playing up in the current one)
Will try and install it this week - thankfully the weather is looking much more settled than it has been!

Yes, beautiful day - 13C but reading 1-2C high with almost no wind and the fan running at reduced speed in the radiation shield. Still some ice on the ground in shaded areas.

Up to Porters Pass and Arthur's Pass today. From Porters car temp read at the lowest -4C and 4C at Arthurs which I consider pretty accurate when Arthur's hit a high of 5C today.

Not worth the risk on a wet roof. It can wait.

Also, it's possible Ricky or myself or someone else might be able to access & replace the faulty reed switch, so don't just throw the old one out. It may still be of value.

I have installed the new anemometer now, the sun came out and dried everything up pretty quickly (it was only brief drizzle that didn't register in the rain gauge).

My wind bearing reading is matching the airport reading closely (around 250°) but I notice a lot of other areas in Auckland reporting SW closer to 225°. Might be easier to compare on a windier day me thinks...

The old one sitting here inside now, in surprisingly good nick (wind cups still shiny even!)
The magnet on the inside of the wind cups component has rusted a little, but the switch itself didn't look too bad...
