Thunder risk for North Island for week starting June 17th
Looks like thunder potential this week over the west and north of the country. I wouldn't like to try and put too much detail on it as storms are typically hit and miss type of weather. Taranaki/Waitomo later tomorrow looks a good bet though.
There looks to be a trough coming onto the top of the North Island later Tuesday and so Auckland should be in the firing line then.
GFS 500mb temp chart for Tuesday.

18ZGFS instability/500mb wind forecast for midday tomorrow.
A low risk of a tornado for Taranaki if the surface flow can veer into the N.

Yes, some big Cbs showing up along the North Island west coast but there is no radar this morning.

-5 LI floating around this afternoon with some very very decent CAPE numbers. Could it be a craker afternoon?

Re: Thunder risk for North Island for week starting June 17th
that weather zone radar is not lined up correctly
we have had no rain last few hours..i.e the shower lines are further south that it suggests
but still good to have a rain radar!

currently 18.2*C / 16.3*C DP. These are crazy temps and moisture for mid June. Need something to trigger off all this energy!

Looks like Metervice are picking up the risk for some isolated thunderstorms this afternoon for Waikato today

Quite bad flooding in our building. It was coming through the roof at a hourrendous rate. Some very very close strikes too.
Best core ive experienced this year by far. Hail, wind, flooding, close strikes. Nice!

I cant believe Tims station missed this. Its just down the road from my work. My station missed it too. It probably needed/needs a warning on that. Just before it started hailing there was a brilliant lowering which looked very much like a wall cloud but my view was blocked by trees so couldnt see all that well.

continual thunder here and now torrential rain with flooding!! Got the thunder and light rain about an hour ago but now seems the storm cell may have re-tracked on itself and getting hit hard now.
