Yeah quite amazing stuff really. Looks like this rain is going to ease very soon and just as well.Razor wrote:Been out running very serious problems in lower cashmere and beckenham loop. Quite breathtaking how fast the heathcote is still rising so bloody fast

What is a slight worry is the amount of snow on top of port hills yet to enter the catchment hopefully we get a good freeze to slow that down up there

Well the rain has finally stopped, that's 234mm in 1 week. The water table is about 1 foot below the surface of the ground, above ground in places no doubt. I have a feeling this h2o is gonna hang around for quite some time to come

looks to be a hail shower just off the coast here...its all white, lit up by the sun, the precipitation falling from it
its heading towards the waitakere ranges...heads up...
lots of chain type shower lines to move onto northland...looks to be a wind convergence line

Upper trough moving toward Northland/Auckland this morning, moving away in the afternoon. Hopefully not too many showers over Auckland as I am liking the drier weather now!

Well the sun is out but the damage has been done. Incredible how much water is out there. Paddocks with acres and acres of flood waters and not a blade of grass. They are completely submerged. It will take weeks of sunshine to sort it out and then more. Driving down the road today and Hoon Hay is in bad shape. Sparks road down by the paddocks near Henderson Road has flood waters across the road, up peoples drives and into their backyards. Waves are creating all sorts of trouble. I went down there last night just before the rain eased but this morning its 10x worse there. The sewers must have failed cause there was bubbling out of drains last night. It stinks around the place and many side streets are knee deep in water. Its the worst I have ever seen in terms of flooding around here.

When you look at this graph and see where they are up to compared to other years, its only June ,what could they end up with if we get a couple more weather system even half as nasty as what weve just had.

Well this storm wasn't overhyped in the main I reckon. Snow didnt hit Chch hard but apart from that it was worth all the warnings-well done to Tony T, WW, Richard G (who I hear has split from WW), MetService and Civil Defence-bloody good work! So easy for people to knock them and although it wasn't 100% accurate it was pretty close. You all deserve a payrise!!

Yes too right just because some areas didn't get what was predicted doesn't mean they all did a bad job in warning what may happen.cantygal wrote:Well this storm wasn't overhyped in the main I reckon. The models did a good job with this set up, particularly inside 72hrs. The rain situation for Canterbury, heavy inland snow, storm force winds about central NZ, electrical storms/hail for the north....all well indicated days in advance.

Did a drive today from Mosgiel to Naseby , thick snow cover most of the way. Locals in Naseby reckon it is the heaviest fall of snow in that town since 1936.
