17 balmy degrees. That's what we ended up reaching yesterday in the end too. Such a great run over the last while with the lack of winds. Cant remember the last night we had an annoying NE.

It has been much sunnier this end of Auckland then Michael but yes July has been on the cloudy side of average.

Missed the game last night and I was in Waikato but I must watch the final next week

Cloud/sunshine mix here, pleasant temps after a cold start, down to 5C at Greylynn :>
A change in our weather coming up this week with a sub tropical low affecting NE NZ, something to watch.

Ended up with 18 as the high here. Dropping ever so slightly now, back down towards 17. Average wind speed today is 1km/h. The last 8 days has seen 7 of those days with the temperature 15 or higher.

Hardly the "chaotic weather pattern" reportedly predicted in the headlines of July 16th - [which to me sounded like our usual '7-to-10-day weather pattern', that I learned about in 5th-form Geography when dinosaurs roamed the earth, anyway]
Most acceptable

Yes, Mangere only has 32mm so far this month, so unless we get a few mm's from that subtropical low before 9am on Thursday, it will be its second lowest July rainfall after the 26mm it recorded in 1993 since records began in 1959.

Beautiful cloud-forms overhead at the moment - some "mackerel sky" and short "mares' tails", quite striking.
4.7 degrees.

Fog finally just cleared. If there is one thing that i could change about hamiltons weather, it has to be the amount of fog we get.

Is there anyway of finding out the number of hours of fog per year experienced around the country? Im sure Hamilton/waikato would have the most.

A fog day is when the visibility is reduced to 1000m or less.

Auckland 19
Hamilton 92
Wellington 6
Christchurch 50
Dunedin 64
Interesting and i wonder how long the fog is reported for? During winter we are very lucky if fog clears before 9am. Its usually in the hours either side of about 11am that it does clear. Can not lift at all some days.

Luckily we don't get much fog in Auckland city, 10days of fog occurrence on average.

Whenuapai airport has 54days, so foggy out west.

I would say less than 10 days in Howick, 10 just seems too high

I see some very moist air showing up over the upper North Island for this weekend on the GFS , good for fog at this time of year if you can get the cloud clearing at night for cooling.

Some awesome radiation fog here this evening. Took this photo earlier of Huntly power stations cloud and u can just make out the fog beginning. Now it's too dark to pick it up in camera but looks really neat. It's probably contained to 2m above ground but it is slowly rising higher.

Weird fog here currently. That radiation fog I mentioned has got very very thick. We can't see lights just 150m away and can't see objects less than 20m away. BUT the crazy thing is its only to about 3m off the ground. We have a star filled clear sky visable.
