Sun is out here also, coming and going though but dry. Mt Hutt will be getting more snow again with the chain showers pushing right inland again. Would be surprised if they end up opening (currently on hold).

Looks like a blob zeroing in on Pirongia now. That's some moisture that's snuck through Cook Straight isn't it.

Look at bizarre river of rain flowing to the west of the city. Thats an interesting thing to see. Lets watch to see where it wanders next, my clothes need drying.

Anyway else see the main story in today's NZ Herald (paper copy) saying Auckland was only supposed to reach 6°C today? Bad reporting!

Chain showers becoming more coastal now and moving back into the city after a mainly dry day to date.

yea as it passed over it did look like a snow shower on it. Not enough to make visible settled snow though. That windchill is nasty.

Another chain shower just before sunset produced one of the strongest rainbows I've seen...

Yes saw that rainbow here also, although looks like you got a much better view of it! On and off showers over the last 3-4 hours. Another one coming through now with blue sky in between them. Looks like they are coming to an end soon. Around 25mm for the system. 46mm now for the month.

Possible snow clouds approaching Hamilton City about 12:30pm. Caught the last remnants of this arriving when stepped onto street briefly just before 1pm, a squall of wind and some odd big raindrops that splattered on the pavement then quickly evaporated.

Their forecast lows seem too high, e.g. Taupo forecast low -1? It's already -0.7 there.
They've got 5 for Auckland, but I'm expecting a light frost here in the morning.

Yea problem is the wind. The wind picked up before and we shot back up over 5. If the wind stays away we will drop below -1 i think but it needs to stay calm all night for that to happen.

Light snow falls on the Volcanic Plateau last two days from occasional snow flurries, strong winds yesterday afternoon /evening blowing snow horizontal, blizzard like conditions.

The breeze will keep Auckland frost free overnight.

It's bound to die out eventually... it has certainly eased back here in the last hour

I am also tending to think that it will dip below -1 here as well, just as long as the wind goes away.
1.8°C and 88% Hum, means that it will have to drop a bit more before it reaches saturation point.
