We did this during the summer drought. It could be interesting to have people post their strange low rainfall readings here for future reference.
It appears as if we are in a similar weather pattern as we had during the start of the year. It is unusually dry in the Waikato with some paddocks actually dusty.

Re: Mid winter dry
Just 43mm for July with average at for my station being something like 130mm. Possibly higher.
Just 52mm in the past 48 days. The interesting thing there is that at least 10mm of that is in the form of long foggy days causing dew in the gauge.

Re: Mid winter dry
Good idea. Yes 8mm only in the past 24 days. We are up 160mm or so on last year for this part of the city still however due to a very wet June largely.
The outlook looks dry too. There is talk of a bit of rain but I would think very little to nothing. GFS with each run is making it look drier and drier. Nothing substancial anytime soon!

Re: Mid winter dry
According to my data Matangi is behind 100mm from avg Rainfall so far this year (Up to July 31st).
Drought Code is steadily increasing as well to around 60.
Strange how this winter isnt turning out to be wet like they usually do.

Re: Mid winter dry
Is there a problem with your Jan total Tim? It says 5 rain days with a wettest day of 4.2mm but total = 0...?

Re: Mid winter dry
Ignore that, I had to redo the Jan totals as they were false tips due to station maintenance. I have reloaded the correct amount in the post above.CHCH Weather Chaser wrote:Is there a problem with your Jan total Tim? It says 5 rain days with a wettest day of 4.2mm but total = 0...?

Re: Mid winter dry
This last lot of rain probably signals the end of the mid winter dry for me. 2 months of very low rainfall for winter. I dont think farmers have ever had such an easy calving period around this part of the country.
Latest 60 drought index before this latest rain has been included. Show how dry its been over the last 60 days.
