Here's NIWA's 'September 2013 National Climate Summary'.
The national average temp was 0.6°C above normal. Kaikoura recorded the highest daily temp of 24.2C. Akld (Mangere) and Tauranga Aero had their 4th-warmest Sept on record, while Hamilton (Ruakura) had its warmest average-max temp on record.
More unstable W to SW flows resulted in numerous storms and fronts.
