Taken some photos from here but only managed to capture the sheet lightning.
Thunder /lightning here last 30mins, intense rain at times.

Lots of thunder rolling through here. Not seeing many big flashes through my curtains tho.

Neighbor nocked on the door at midnight to say there were 50 calves spooked by the storms and running down the road. Were not our calves but with this constant thunder I can hear ours going nuts outside.

Ah that's better. Curtains open! Big purple flashes but like Brian said, all sheet lightning. No bolts visable.

I've seen a number of strikes on the Sky Tower this morn.

Pic is out of focus, not sure how I managed that.

What a ripper. A red line on the radar moved over us right on 4am. Gusted 76km with torrential rain. Massive thunder over head too. Still lots of lightning out there.

Ah, I see that I am not the only one who has found sleep nigh impossible over the past few hours.

A very active night indeed :)

Looks like another storm developing over the bombays at the moment. Could catch that as it moves this way. Seeing more and more lightning from that way.

Pouring with rain here still and getting heavier as the next storm moves closer. Wind beginning to gust too.

Dog inside now haha. 8 month old puppy experiencing her first real storm. She doesn't like it. Won't be taking her storm chasing this summer then.

Awww. Having such senstive ears doesn't help.

My cat turns her back on the lightning. (so it can't see her).

I have a flight to catch this morning so I didn't chase but it was a nice storm around here, lasted about an hr. Caught some lightning photos but through trees/houses.

Apparently quite a good line went through at 4am, but it wasn't good enough to wake me. Another at 4.50am did however. Only occasional, maybe 5 minutes apart (this side of the Kaimai Force Field) IC on the leading edge of the rain band, a couple of the were close & loud.

Some good photos coming out of there this morning! Nada here on the Coast overnight except rain.. although it is supposed to pick up later on?
Still wont beat that sorm around 1130am Friday.. massive elevated CG's raining down between Hokitika & Greymouth, couple of them so close it put the wind up me, only because I was outside working with the crane slinging up packs of logs.. still, my thrill for the week :)

Lots of thunder and lightning here overnight. Watched a lot of it from bed with my curtain slightly pulled open ;) Activity lasted over a period 1.30am to 4.30am. Some of the sheet lightning was impressive the way it flickered for 2-3 seconds.

Pretty damn tired this morning... but was it worth it? YES!! :D

The lightning photo posted is perhaps not that out of focus, it was raining heavily when I took it. Got a couple of other pics of lightning hitting the tower and they look just the same.

Grey Lynn got 35mm from the storms.

Day has a summery humid look and feel about it already. Providing we can get some great heating we could get afternoon heat showers with maybe a clap of thunder or two.

Yes, slight risk there. Otago got inland storms yesterday which means summer convective season has started.

Taranaki looks a good bet for tonight.

Otago and Southland should get storms again today.

A video of the front around 3 am taken around wairau road, north shore. Sorry for the swearing I get a bit excited in situations like that, forgetting I intend to you tube it.

Some very beefy Showers moving through central to eastern Waikato this afternoon. Some very heavy looking bases around.

Convection seems quite crisp too :)
