27 degrees here in suburban ChCh after 26 yesterday. Could the first 30 degree afternoon of the summer be on?

Re: General October Weather
hmm interesting in the last hour looks like thunderstorms poped up over birdlings flat area going by radar, getting pushed out to sea though. and a convergance line not far from me in rolleston.
SW change has gone through here after a another warm day.

Jet stream earlier in the day over the South Island which produced the elevated storms.

Yes, it looked very much like that from here, Mikey, but the NW too influential against the oncoming SW.mikestormchaser wrote:hmm interesting in the last hour looks like thunderstorms poped up over birdlings flat area going by radar, getting pushed out to sea though. and a convergance line not far from me in rolleston.

Re: General October Weather
It was hardly much of a windchange here just the temperature drop, went W-SW briefly for about 5 minutes then back to westerly still reasonably mild now too on 15C.
It looks like this NW/SW pattern will keep up for some time yet even with the high in the central Tasman by the end of next week its sitting quite far north so will drift up over the north island top half as the deep lows barrel into the South Island.
Only downside to that is not much rain for eastern areas with an ongoing W-NW flow into next week things will start to dry out, its been good though latly getting abit of rain inbetween lows.

Re: General October Weather
The NE of the North Island has been in the dry zone with this pattern

The earlier prediction by NIWA of a weaker than normal westerly pattern for Spring is looking off the mark.

I was going to do more chain-sawing today but I decided to mow the lawns in the garden, instead, as it was too hot with 24C, the maximum for today.Richard wrote:Hot aright,28deg ATM,NW wind died about 11.00 and winds been light since.

Despite the high getting up to 19.4, the Sun is really packing a punch now. It feels much warmer when your outside in the sun then a month ago.

Re: General October Weather
Looking like the weather is trying to dry out in the north now.
Should be a clear day again today with a SW breeze.
Looks like a warm front south of Auckland on Wednesday.

Re: General October Weather
The weather has been very pleasant lately, yes, that sun is strong now.
Those wanting rain in the north might have to wait until Friday, looks it will be humid here Friday with some rain before drier cooler air sweeps in for the long weekend.
Looks like it will turn cold in the south at the weekend, polar air lurking in the models.

Re: General October Weather
Yea i was up the Tutukaka coast on the weekend. Stunning weaher there but notibly dryer than anywhere esle. I noticed the clover was already showing signs of moisture deficiency. Clover is the first plant to turn show signs but they could certainly do with a nice drop up on that east coast.

Re: General October Weather
I've been watering small portions of the garden for the last few days, things are really drying out now. Doesn't look like any useful rain for the rest of the month either! Hope we are not heading into another dry summer
