Persistent rain out near Akaroa - dusting of snow on tops, now down as low as about 550-600m.

Heavy rain through Buller gorge doesn't stop the council contractors from mowing the roadside!

More blue sky here in Reefton than I've seen elsewhere today (just a tad), mr11 playing on skatepark in summer shirt, but light breeze is cold. Lewis Pass tomorrow ...

4.6C in chch now below the overnight low of 5C :crazy: snow must be close as I have sleet on my windscreen.

snowing in oxford and only 1.5°C in Darfield so it looks like it's getting lower than predicted...just.

Yes look to have taken all the weather forecasters by surprise.
Weatherwatch had 800m lowering to 500m at night I think in there forecast for today but metservice did have half that at 400m in a watch out yesterday.

Yes a person I know in Oxford at 210m says its snow heavy at times and settling, Cust at 136m has snow falling too.

weatherwatch now saying as low as 300m. Snowing in methven now quite decent flakes too. Wonder if it will go any lower?

Over 30cm in Arthurs pass now and no warning for any area south of waipara :?:
Temp dropping quick now, 3.2C here in Rangiora(70m) down from 4.8C 40 mins ago.

Some form of shadowing here just on the coast according to the radars however its not exactly light rain either, patchy but steady no sleet or anything though.
3.9C currently but slowly dropping
Canterbury, home of good rugby and severe storms

Rain has been continuous all day.
26.8mm to 4pm.
Rain not heavy but constant.

Amazing that its much lower than forecast and such a contrast over the country. We're on 15 here.

Warm moist air mixing with cold southern air, pretty sure it is, considering all the moisture is moving down over canterbury from the north
