Im not liking the looks of this front.

Something looked off today I just hoped the line would hold together, but it has followed the usual weakening path.
Also it looks like Metservice agreed with you, and downgraded the risk of storms.

A deep low over the Tasman Sea is expected to approach New Zealand today. An associated front is forecast to move across the North Island during the afternoon and evening. There is a moderate risk of thunderstorms for western areas from Auckland to Taranaki this afternoon and early evening, spreading into Coromandel Peninsula and Bay of Plenty in the evening. These thunderstorms may produce localised heavy rain, strong wind gusts of 90 to 110 km/h and small hail.There is also the possibility of one or two small tornadoes.

For Taupo and Tongariro National Park the risk of thunderstorms in the evening is considered low.

Over the South Island, there is a low risk of a few thunderstorms as the front moves onto northwest Nelson and the Marlborough Sounds but a moderate risk over northwest Nelson west of about Takaka.

No thunderstorms or significant convection expected over the remainder of New Zealand.

We are now into late afternoon the likelihood of getting decent convection that develop into storms, I would say is low now. Cold Fronts on the NW flow need to move a little more quickly to the east to sustain a more vigorus updraft.

Fire Brigade reporting small tornado damage to houses Vauxhall rd devonport.. Hit hard here in Grey Lynn with a wind gust recorded just under 80km/h

Updated at 6:58pm to include a risk of SEVERE thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts and tornadoes in Coromandel Peninsula and the Bay of Plenty this evening as an active line of heavy showers and thunderstorms moves east across the area.

A deep low over the Tasman Sea is expected to approach New Zealand today. An associated front is forecast to move across the North Island this evening.There is a moderate risk of thunderstorms for western areas from Waikato to Taranaki this afternoon, spreading into Coromandel Peninsula and Bay of Plenty this evening.These thunderstorms may produce localised heavy rain, strong wind gusts of 90 to 110 km/h and small hail. There is also the possibility of one or two small tornadoes. The storms in Coromandel Peninsula and the Bay of Plenty could be accompanied by damaging wind gusts in excess of 110 km/h and localised tornadoes.
