It looks like its heading straight for the city. I'm waiting for it to do that shuffle off to the side out under the peninsula.

That line of cloud is nearly upon me and thunder nearly continual. Time to disconnect the computer again.

they look good on rain radar and are black etc but drops of rain are far apart, etc

2 lightning bolts to my SE. Here's the southerly gusting in now with rain & sounds like small hail. More lightning-bolts! And continual thunder.

Look at that, the latest radar shows that the new cell killed the old one and chc misses out. We've been robbed again.

Just saw first lightning of the day from the city. Have been hearing a lot of distant thunder, finally getting closer.

The cold blustery wind kills the day. Canterbury was always going to be the spot for chaseable storms today.

Hideous dark cloud masses have been passing across Benmore Peak since last night, bringing huge quantities graupel, as well as periodic mini snow storms. In between it's beautifully fine, although the biting wind hasn't let up since midday.

Cell passed to the west of here, heard quite a lot of thunder but only saw one flash of lightning but it was a fairly close CG.

Awesome photos guys, well done  Looks like M/S were right on the money with their 20-25mm hail chances for Canterbury.

Apart from the brief hail around 7.20am, it's been a very uninteresting day up here, only 0.2mm since 9am!
