Change just gone through. Blew a gale here at work.

At home I recorded 90.7km/h gust with a max 74.9km/h average. Temp went from 20.4*C to 14.2*C in 25 mins and is still dropping.

Heck, got the max temp so far today and the min so far within 30 min!
Gusting to 72km/hr here and up to 54 sustained, I am liking these weather patterns coming through :)

wow that has exploded to life. Taupo is about to get clobered. There will no doubt be some very damaging gusts associated with that.

Turoa webcams. At 12:15pm it was still raining, even up at the Giant at 2060m. Then feezing level dropped and 1 hr later that much snow had fallen even at the base at 1670m, as well as up higher.

reports from the brother inlaw NW of Taupo of horizontal rain with white out conditions and instant surface flooding when that front went through

Our local school had no power for a couple of hours...I had to bucket water into the toilets...

OMG
stuff have taken poor old Dan Corbit's on the spot statement about a big dump of rain coming in the next few hours at face value (it passed over hours ago with bugger all rain)
http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/9282523 ... eads-north
A wind-whipped Auckland is bracing for the next onslaught, a forecast dumping of rain.
there is no big blob of rain still coming......surely they could look at the rain radar themselves and see that its already gone over?

Electricity that would charge heat-pumps for warmth over the winter months and there would be no need to use fossil fuels for burning for heating. 0_o
It's a shame that they can't "harness" lightning electricity and store it into the national grid. :yum:

We have had a good amount of rain here today. At the Palmerston North airport there has been 46.2mm of rain since midnight and I have recorded 26.9mm. I'm trying to understand why my recorded value was so much lower, when I am only about 5km SSE of the airport. I only replaced my rain gauge in the last 6 months.

power is still off in some places in this district

one of the worst wind storms to hit the auckland area from the NW in a few years...and there was not even a gale warning...

I am not surprised....
the real time wind observation sites showed these gales developing over the far north around 10am...which then moved down into the eastern hauraki gulf....that was the first warning sign....
there was time to get warnings out..otherwise why have all this real time info if its not used in a timely why?

I was able to warn locals in my area via Facebook not long after 10am that a big NWer was about to hit...because I knew from looking at the sat image, the rain radar, and the sea conditions out to sea, and a rapdily dropping baro, that a severe gale NWer was about to hit this side of the NI (it was at first hitting the eastern side of the north island)

it was a fast developing situation....but it would be cool to have a team like the severe weather forecasters that can get warnings or watches out quickly as condition develop....

I see N'ly gusts of 137 km/h were recorded at White Island yesterday and 120 km/h NW gusts at the Mokohinau Islands in the very outer Gulf.
