Any recommendation as to the best publically available forecast for Waikato/Bay of Plenty area over the next week please?
By best I dont mean pleasant+, I mean useful for holiday planning.

Use Metservice and follow this forum. Models are currently pointing to a spell of humid wet weather from next Wednesday.moylanr wrote:Any recommendation as to the best publically available forecast for Waikato/Bay of Plenty area over the next week please?

"7. The weather forecasters here suck! Far worse than average. We were supposed to have four or five solid days of rain this week. We’ve had one. It’s been bright, sunny, and beautiful since then. That said, New Zealand CAN do a decent thunderstorm. As a midwesterner used to frequent, tornado-inducing thunderstorms, I was impressed by one the other night. Kudos, New Zealand weather. Kudos."

Re: General November Weather
Midwest USA might be an easier place to forecast than NZ, USA does have a very good weather service.

Re: General November Weather
Looks to be a marginal set up for thunder/severe hail in Canterbury later today. UKmet triggers onshore flow/convection early afternoon starting over east North Otago. But GFS keeps a dry westerly and triggers onshore flow/convection coastal mid Canterbury/BP later in the day.

Geography is much less relevant now than it was 20 years ago.

Re: General November Weather
I'm just keeping an eye on a patch of dark grey and white cloud not too far to my south-east; it seems to be getting raggedy and a bit turbulent-looking.
Gusty winds from west or NW; probably about 21 degrees (my outside thermometer not in a good spot, sorry).

Cumulus forms are bubbling up to the south of here at the moment, although a bit flat.
The persistent high cloud layer (Jet) to the north of us gradually moving away allowing the sun to become "more sunnier?"
Could be a clap or two later this afternoon as long as we don't get nay hail with it

General November Weather
I wasn't expecting this much wind today. My 64km/h alarm on the weather station keeps going off.

Re: General November Weather
We've reached 25.4°C here today. The NW is blustery but it blows over quite a bit of land before it gets here, hence it's a warm wind in summer

Some very contrasting upper air temps number this afternoon. Warm over the North of country, cold over the south.
Cloudy to overcast this afternoon, with a brisk NW.

I think a gust to 80 might be possible on the arrival of this front. Been getting to 70 already.

One of the better Novembers here, the last two weeks had an average max of around 24C , 4C above the Nov average.
