I think the setup is over here in central north Waikato, that rain in the morning and lingering high cloud from the showers has really limited the SFC temps unfortunately.
Unfortunatly the flow was NE which we got the scrappy stuff coming off the sea.

Hoping that tomorrow turns out better, going by forecast soundings it should.

The upper air wont be as saturated as today and that should keep the cloud cover back. Showers and some rain later tonight I think.

I dont think its all over yet. Still on 18.3 degrees and clear sky. Looks like we will have some more activity come through in the next hour or so.

I went down to the Bombay Hills early afternoon, there were numerous heavy showers down there , small hail, some lightning/thunder. Too many cooling showers and a lack of convergence for anything decent, but atleast there were storms. Hopefully better heating tomorrow. A Few photos .

3rd day in a row with thunder in Auckland! Will there be thunder tomorrow?

Just weak storms today, nothing like your typical summer storm event.

Not much shear there today but some good inflows anyway with rising scud.

Sadly none heard here today (or yesterday)! Hoping tomorrow produces something a bit further east.
We had just 1mm of rain since 9am.

Haha I like this quote from Dan Corbett. Not sure if I've ever heard a low compared to an Octopus before
Spokesman Dan Corbett said the low had already brought heavy downpours to Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Te Puke and from Taupo to the Gisborne ranges this afternoon.

"Think of it like a big octopus, flailing its arms around like it's really mad, and the centre of its head would be sitting just north and east of Whangaparaoa,'' he said.

"We have another day of it tomorrow and then it's getting the hint and moving off to the northeast of New Zealand.''

The upper levels show a slight warming trend tomorrow but we will get good heating and some storms should develop. Upper flow SE so convection should drift our way.

Do you think eastern suburbs will catch anything tomorrow? Or is the activity likely to be further west again

Yes, the convergence zone will be further inland tomorrow. Taupo to East Auckland

That Cb to the east is spectacular from here (out West). Sadly the photo size is too large to post here, and the power is currently off so I can't fiddle with the resolution.

Only saw 1 lightning bolt, but heard a bit of thunder in Tokoroa about 4.20pm, drove through plenty of rain, occasional light hail. But not a lot else to report really. Was quite disappointed. Hope I didn't jinx it again by charging batteries & putting camera & tripod in the car. Got very wet working, doesn't take long with the multiple trips to & from the car.

Metservice has only a moderate risk now for Auckland and Northland tomorrow afternoon. I remain hopeful!

clouds dont look as 'punchy' this morning
but it does look like the early morning clouds will burn off better this morning
and so should get good heating and sea breeze convergence today
