Like a cyclone in Hamilton city centre right now. Rain so horizontal it's almost going upwards.

darn we missed out big time here. Just 2mm from this. Just west, hundreds of meters down the road there would have been 10+mm and then even further west there was surface flooding. I followed it after noticing it was going to skip west of me.

Could have really done with 25mm like i see Tim managed.

Went for a drive down to Manukau but the storm was out over the harbour and looked to be moving NW towards Maunukau heads!

Lots of thunder here but no rain. Looks to be slipping up the coast to the west of here. Has been interesting observing flights into Auckland changing course to avoid tge storm - just before 6pm an Air NZ B777 from Brisbane was almost skimming the treetops over Laingholm, taking an unusual flight path.

Had one massive crash of thunder at exactly 7pm with accompanying power surge, closely followed by Volly Fire Brigade siren. Sounds like more on the way, thunder getting closer once again.

A few photos from my afternoon in Waikato.
Saw storms with hail at Mercer/ Bombay mid afternoon then I went down to Ngaruawahia and Huntly late afternoon, more lightning and heavy rain down there.

Unfortunately this setup wasnt photogenic, since the storms were on a line there was hardly any sun when you were around a storm also they were loaded with rain....

Here are some of my Photo's:

Cool pics! Yes NZstorm, noticed those storms over inland Southland, was waiting for them to pop this evening. Would've been some great evening lightning down there.

If that sort've thing happens next summer I'll be tempted to do a bit of travelling :D
