Hey guys this thread is for sharing severe and interesting NZ weather maps (isobar, satellite, rain radar etc) that you've collected (I'm assuming most you do) over the years. I've been collecting maps since 2005 so I'll start off!

Biggest area of white on the rain radar I've seen was recently near Mt Taranaki on the 19th of November 2013 at 3.20pm afternoon heating caused severe thunderstorms to develop in the Central North Island.

Longest trough ever in NZ? (7pm 7-11-13)

An 'N' over Tasmania (yes... its not in NZ but its still on MetService's NZ satellite image :p ) (21-3-13)

This is the most perfectly structured low I've ever seen, it was from Wellingtons mega June storm (3:28pm 20-6-13)

Damn... I wish Wellington could get a southerly front like this.. (21-11-05)

Neat idea. I'd have to have a look through my computer but since I've been collecting images I've had about 6 computers and so I might not have many available.

I've saved a few thunderstorm outlooks in 2005 and 2006. Wish I had saved more of the good ones over the years! This one is from March 2006:

Here's another, on the 7th of June 2008 a low spun off the east coast of Australia but it swirled so perfectly that a one point it looked like a cyclone. Sorry for the bad quality if you would like to download a better quality video time lapse of it here's the link http://agora.ex.nii.ac.jp/digital-typho ... 008-06.mpg

I like this radar image, showing a mature low off the East Coast of the Nth Isld. 14 July 2013 at 0713 hrs.

Despite the attrocious winds that literally roared, this radar image had me in fits of laughter. It was great humour for a very violent night. Was the big 2013 Wellington SE June storm. Looked just like a goat attacking the region.

That low was pretty cool too, it was heading towards Gisborne then stalled briefly, then began to move E-SE out to the Pacific Ocean.

On the evening on the 29th July 2012 a rain band passed over Northland and Auckland, a small eye formed however there was little or no circulation.

A rare sea becoming phenomenal forecast this was for a storm that happened on the 26th July 2008. I think there was 3 quick deepening lows that occurred around this time one after the other.

This is the weather warnings for that storm, it not very often that you see MS saying 'THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DESTRUCTIVE AND DANGEROUS STORM'

Yeah it would also be really amazing if was all low level clouds and a picture of them was taken from an airplane.

I enjoy watching this timelapse over and over again showing a tiny swirling low that was the remains of ex TC Fehi. When it came ashore it caused flash flooding in the Waitakere Ranges which sadly resulted in 2 deaths.
