Re: General December Weather
Strangely the southerly wind has died away here now and suddenly gone back to the NE with associated low cloud now moving in from that direction. Also the rain has stopped.

Re: General December Weather
interesting convergence line to the NE this afternoon.
Some Cu forms had pilieus tops
Cloud did eventually move cross but weakened and flattened out with no real return to the NE.
Becoming much colder.

Re: General December Weather
Something to watch later in the week as upper level temps are coolish and moist air may start to move back in, will need some good moisture/heating.jamie wrote: Hamilton 27th and looks a chance of a storm there then too.

Re: General December Weather
Still looking like a slow moving upper trough across NZ later this week with afternoon convection/thunder over the inland North Island and possibly inland South Island. Can't rule anywhere out at this early stage.
500mb heights and winds/surface isobars for Saturday.

I'm going to be camping in Gisborne from the 28th to the 1st. Anyone hazard a guess if I should pack the wet weather gear?? Thanks

Really warmed up here after 5pm. Got to 27 and sitting just over 25 currently. Lovely evening with a northerly breeze and blue skies.

Re: General December Weather
Sunday 29th is looking interesting with low LI's and high CAPE across much of the North Island, along with dewpoints near 18C

Re: General December Weather
Yes, the upper air is cool for the time of year, throw in 18C dewpoints and the instability numbers crank up.

Re: General December Weather
I think I will chase today. On the southern side of the central plateau. Not the best chase country though. Just have to find a high spot on the road and watch from there.
