Lost the power here for three hours thanks to very strong NW wind, certainly as strong as the earlier spring wind storm with a few trees limbs down.

Wind wasn't quite that strong here, but enough to take down a number of leafy twigs & small branches from oak trees etc.

General January weather

Unread post by jamie »

Yet again the front has died and stalled. SW fronts never make it in the summer months. It's a bad pattern to be in and I hope it changes to a more northerly pattern soon.

Only managed 24.9C here yesterday. Warm overnight though with a min of 19.2 this morn, while I don't think Akld Aero got below 20C.

Looks like Karen got her graphic wrong last night, i.e. said gust to 107 km/h at Mt Kaukau was probably meant to have been for Kelburn, Wgtn, particularly as Stephens Island got to 148 km/h (although Karen had 152 km/h)

Front over South Auckland looks interesting on radar, the narrowest shower line you will see. We should get a brighter afternoon with low cloud burning off.

A decent warm front coming into central NZ later today with a good soaking and possible elevated thunder. But looks very warm aloft and may not be cold enough for thunder. Looks like some rain for Auckland from this later tomorrow.

If people are interested, next door in the NT, Australia there is quite a sizeable MCS (Mesoscale Convective System) going on - that means heaps of lightning :). Have a look at the Blitzortung Sub forum if you want more info....

Partly cloudy here with some cloud to the north, rain around 6mm or so, not that much but still better than nothing.

I wonder if the front will move south again ahead of the strengthening NWer ahead of the next front...

well, auckland city is going to miss out on this front....its dying just north of me and has stalled
clouds are starting to move down from the NW here now...so the southerly change behind the front is gone now..so no more frontal boundary

Warm front is shaping up in the Tasman now. Heavy rain will reach the west of the North Island south of about Kawhaia this evening.

I was hoping to get close to my record high temp, but that won't happen with so much cloud drifting through...

Don't think it's possible now that the NE sea breeze has arrived. Humidity jumped 10% with the wind change. Sultry :o

"Sultry" - I remember what that used to be like; it's a word that's seldom heard down here :D

We can call Auckland weather sultry today, max for some areas 27/ 28C with a dewpoint around 20C

I see Metservice showing Gisborne currently on 31C, lower humidity there with the dewpoint around 13 or 14C.
