Re: General January weather
Risk of a storm moving up east coast tomorrow late afternoon evening, pushing off shore south of Bp like they tend to.

Yes, may just scrape south Akld in the next hour or so...Manukau heads obs wrote:the next frontal rain band looks impressive on the rain radar
looks like we might get the top end of it here...
Just had a nice wee shower here - barely see it on MS's radar-image, but shows up well on WZ.
A 'sultry' 25.8C here earlier.

Re: General January weather
up to 12 consecutive rain days and counting.
if forecast is correct, could beat my station record of 16 days.
camping in Hokitika last 3 days - gumboots absolutely essential. had quite a few comments from tourists about how clever it was to have thought of wearing them. not what summer holidays are supposed to be like.

General January weather
Sure got hot today with that humidity. Was up over 26. Nothing like Queensland has had today tho.
This rain is falling apart fast. We are only getting a few spits here.

Low of 19.4. Without air con and keeping the house shut to reduce mozzies and flys our 7 week old hates it. To be fair I do too!

Re: General January weather
GFS brings a cold trough onto the North Island on Thursday, looks unusual for Jan. Cool /cold weather for NZ as this system moves through from mid week.

Re: General January weather
Its fair to say its not been the greatest of summers so far and regions like Central Otago have had a lot poor weather. None of those big 30C+ temperatures yet down there this year.

Another hot night with a low of 19.7C. Yesterday's 24 hour average temp of 22.9C is the 2nd-equal highest I have recorded (the only warmer day was in Feb 2011)

Re: General January weather
Hopefully some rain coming this afternoon. Currently it's overcast, 22C, light NE breeze.
Nice change from yesterday's heat (though it is still humid).

Re: General January weather
That rain band that crossed this morning from the NW has now flared up into a storm offshore, could be some isolated storms south of Christchurch later on quite an unstable skies set up looking further south down the plains with CB's visable to the west.
Definatly a wind convergence set up today, the wind is gusty NW here but E-SE south of Christchurch down the coastline.

Re: General January weather
Looks like the rain coming in now, will ease very soon. A pity, hopefully we get more with this active more spring like pattern.

General January weather
I've had just 2mm but in Hamilton CBD earlier we would have had 5-10mm from one shower alone while I was in there.
