Rapid temp drop with that little shower, dropped from 21C to 16C in 20 minutes. Hopefully some stronger showers to come

The shower we had at approx 9.30am dropped the temp by about 2°C I'm liking the potential today. Considering a run down to Whakatane. Thoughts?

There are a set of showers with nothing in behind approaching Turangi. I wonder if this will be what will eventaully be a nice active southerly line.

Yes, that will be the southerly change. Thunderstorms already triggering about the Kaimanawa ranges. Also one currently near Whakatane in the southwesterly which is an indication of how unstable it is.jamie wrote:There are a set of showers with nothing in behind approaching Turangi. In tokoroa. Had near hail on the way in. Small hail mixed in rain in tokoroa. Large peels of thunder here. Temp went from 22 on the car to 12 in a couple of mins. Sadly I'm heading further south and not north with this.

Rain radar is telling fibs today... has been showing moderate rain going over us for most of the last hour... in reality there has just been a few spits of rain at times

Being evaporated before landing?
In Whakatane considering my next move. Looking good for heading back towards Matata. Only seen 1 CG thus far.

Almost continuous here. Just seen a young lady wander down the point with her tripod etc in the heavy hail included shower. Lots of close lightning too.
