General March Weather

Unread post by CWUweather »

Looks to start off cool tomorrow with SW winds and dry conditions, followed by yet another SW change for the South Island on Monday... What do we think. :-)

Definitely some coastal thunder in the south late tomorrow. Looks cold!
May some late afternoon convergence over eastern North Otago as well.

Weather looks fine for Auckland today but a bit more moisture there tomorrow to cloud things up.

4 or 5 days cool weather coming up for Auckland, cloudy next few days with an increasing chance for a light shower from tomorrow, becoming fine Tuesday

A cold looking low system showing up east of the South Island for a few days from Monday, ECMWF map for Monday.

NZ has better weather when the Highs set up east of the country, a South Tasman high generally means cooler dry weather for Ak.

Drove to Waihi Beach yesterday, the countryside is very dry from Auckland to Paeroa. East of the Ranges looked less dry.

Current weather here sunny after morning cloud, 21C, dp 12C, mod southwest wind.

We need a widespread 25mm here to break the dryness, there's not a lot of rain on offer for the next couple of weeks with the incoming High dominating.

Youll need more than that. 25mm with another 25 a few days later would be a good start.

Although soil moisture levels are the same as for this time last year, we have had much cooler conditions. This dry has been brought on by the darn winds. I thought by the different conditions we wouldnt have such a prolonged dry spell as last year but we are on par with last year. Hopefully we can start to get some rain late March like we did last year.

Lower humidities this year as well with the SW winds. The 11mm at Mangere for Feb is less than what was recorded last Feb.

It could be May before we get the rains back again. The pattern change/rain was early last year.

4mm in Waiuku....3mm here...
enough to call off our school swimming sports day...but otherwise only good for the tropical Kikuyu grasses that are still green..and to keep the dust/sand from blowing around for a few hours...

A few mm over this way as well but 20 -30mm is needed to get moisture back into the soil.
