Paeroa 125mm.

Pinnacles on 180mm!

Its orographically tiggered convection across the Coromandel/Kaimais with cb tops to 6km.
How did west of the ranges get so much rain with a north-easterly?

Very strong wind flow (50-60knots aloft) pushed the precip across. The heavy precip didn't extend far beyond the ranges.

Good steady rain over the past couple of hours. 13mm so far. Nothing overly impressive about the band coming in, perhaps 20-25mm for the event (which models have been showing for a number of runs now) Christchurch should be pretty certain of escaping further flooding (although cant be 100% sure on that of course) Very tropical feel out there this morning as you'd expect. 150mm for rain to the YTD than this stage last year!

One thing to note though is that the rain is falling more heavily than the radar suggests and that of-course will be down to the tropical air and a bit of instability as NZ Storm pointed out!

Nothing dramatic here, your average southerly front provides more punch than what we have seen here so far

we've had 1mm of rain here so far...and that was yesterday.
we're going to get more with the front coming tomorrow.
thought we might end up with a bit more than that.

but i see Kaikoura has had 81mm so far today
that's pretty decent.

Looks like a strong cold front is heading westwards and will merge with Ex-TC Lusi, will be interesting when that happens :)
Gusting up to 45KM/hr here atm with a temp of 22 and DP of 19. Only 0.2mm of rain so far today.

Certainly hasnt been a rain maker here.

So far, boring and harmless here - windless y'day as expected, a few light showers so far today. NW would have to be very strong to impress locals.

You may well end up dead right with your 40-50mm prediction for Christchurch, who would have thought a young fella would show up the other so called experts if we do end up receiving that much!! Up to 35mm for the event here in West Melton...
