A few GFS models going for a very deep low to run down the west coast, meaning a very unsettled start to easter weekend followed I am sure by very strong NW gales.
Not good for the Wanaka Airshow q- , here is hoping we get at least one good day as I have a gold pass so I can go on either of the 3 days.
Early days but here Is a taste of what its looking like from METVUW can and will change.

The remains of Cyclone Ita might ruin my camping plans according to some models.

A bit far out for me to be taking any notice of models.

Easter certainly starts wet with rain or heavy showers/possible Tstorms likely for much of NZ , improves for many areas by Sunday. It won't be cold.

Be very cautious with the BOM's Access model, it has a tendency to overdoo weather events. If the GFS, UKMO align then it is more likely.

But the models are still too far out to suggest anything certain at this stage.

Though sometimes like the early March event for Christchurch it was spot on with it's accumulated precipitation amounts a good 3 days out...

Except for Good Friday, turned out to be a nice WE.
Got all the lawns mowed today. Very green and very lush, just like the first mow in Spring.

Rain, lots and lots of rain where we were at Lake Okataina, had one storm cell pass very close so that made my weekend _b ,had enough breaks in the weather to get out and do some walking tracks and as well as to get away from all the boozers.

Not too bad weather down in Queenstown just cloudy with sunny breaks most of the time, Sunday was good at the airshow in Wanaka with sun most of the day, got a bit wind burnt though.
Surprisingly no snow at all down there not even on the remarkables, just goes to show what the general wind flows have been so far and not as typical of W-SW which it should be this time of the year.
So it could be a late start for many ski fields, although May could turn a page into a more W-SW pattern judging by the long range maps.
Back to clag and drizzle on the plains today q-
