pretty decent flooding in Timaru.
Metservice only recorded 22mm but the pictures show it must have been a bit more in some places.

Yes, there was an interesting article of the news tonight about Canterbury Crop farmers facing crop failures because of the continuing damp weather, also North Otago farmers are feeling the same fate because of the wet weather.

Raining steadily here from 9pm, with a wee bit of a wind upsurge from the SW.
Slight increase in external temperature but slight decrease in internal temperature?

We have had heavy rain in Oamaru since 0600 hours today ,Rain finally eased about 1830 hours up to 50-70mm on the coastal strip in North Otago along with strong to gale southerly winds .There has been significant surface flooding , flooded houses which have had to be sandbagged . Houses and basements had had to be pumped out by the Fire Service .Civil Defence volunteers have been deployed at Five Forks , Kakanui , Duntroon and Palmerston and Oamaru . Civil Defence activated their Emergency Operation Centre to coordinate the response with emergency services and the Waitaki District Council along with the roading contractors and NZTA . State Highway One at Hilderthorpe was closing tonight as water was across the highway , Diversions up Seven Mile road are in place . Many district roads are closed and some rural communities isolated . By morning we expect the State Highway 's to open after an assessment but some district roads may not be reopened for some days . The district is so saturated it will takes weeks to dry out and this is the wrong time of the year for drying out processes!

Further heavy rain for Canterbury

I'm flying to chch tomorrow morning at 6.30. Should be a bumpy ride with all the showers around. I'm staying at Lincoln for two nights. Think I'm free Wednesday night if anyone is keen to catchup.

Hope there isn't flooding for chch for a third time in 2014.

A lot of bad surface flooding around the city again this morning. Seems to almost be the norm this Autumn.

67mm here now for the event, still raining hard, but this last band is just hanging on. Maybe 75-80mm by the time we finish up.

Hopefully the worst has passed, this event has delivered the worst flooding of the lot so far around here (Cashmere/ Cracroft). Hate to think what it is like in other areas

Lots of surface flooding on plains as I flew in. Didn't get much of a view tho as the cloud was so low.

Probably for the best. Sure is windy down here today, and good old torrential drizzle at the moment.
