There are some serious anticrepuscular rays over the port hills in chch right now. I'd love to take a photo but am at work and don't have a camera with me, hopefully someone can snap them!

That upper trough in the Tasman Sea should produce quite a bit of lightning out there tomorrow. GFS has the higher topped cb's reaching Taranaki but just a shower or two for Auckland but will keep an eye on it tomorrow. 500mb will be -22C for Auckland.

11mm for Howick this afternoon/evening. Sure has been warmer at night recently, have had to replace the winter duvet with something lighter.

Winterless here so far.
Some cold upper level troughing showing up in the modelling over the next week. Perhaps a thunder day or two coming up for Auckland.

I was only expecting a brief spillover from the west this afternoon which it did, but then returned again from 5:30pm onwards with some heavy falls on and off until about 8pm.
The winds must have been lighter in the mid and upper levels to allow the bulky rain activity through the alps and high country to spill or develop over the plains, a further 5.8mm to add to a very wet June.
As the surface models only hinted at a brief splash for mid afternoon.

If you are referring to the ARL its around 4:40pm and 10:40pm, so that gives you an idea there.

FWI the model analysis can take a few hours ontop of the runtime, so models wont be released exactly on the run time.

Brilliantly Overcast today, rainy in the latter half of the day.
Auckland could get a few rumbles of Thunder on Friday, less likely tomorrow despite an upper level jet persisting through the upper half of the North Island.
Whakatane and the mid west coast of the North Island look to be in the better places of seeing some Lightning tomorrow.

44mm here since about midday yesterday.

Fairly calm now, which is quite a contrast from how blustery it was just a few hours ago. I see Akld also had some fairly impressive gusts yesterday, with 91 km/h at Ardmore Aerodrome and 83 km/h at Whangaparaoa. And further north, I think gusts at Tutukaka were up around 122 km/h last night.

28mm here.

That surface wind later in the day at New Plymouth goes into the N which throws up a risk of an isolated tornado given upper flow is NW.
