General June Weather
She's fair chucking it down ATM. Solid continuous rain at 60mm/hr for past couple if mins. Have been sitting at 15mm/h for the last hour before this.
Strangely the radar doesn't show it very well.

Re: General June Weather
Ya lucky bugger Dale
Over the last day or so i'm gotten sick of hearing people saying they are either stocking up or moving there animals into shelter etc in preparedness for what they think is a major snowfall coming, the problem as i see it is the TV forecasts are too rudimentary and end up misinforming the general public. We know that winter SW wind flows tend to deviate away from both east/west coastlines, yet TV forecasts over the last few days have shown showers both sides, most people dont know that it never works like that this time of year.

Re: General June Weather
In this case its not so much hype i think, its just the TV forecasters are not been informative enough, just because a shower or two catches exposed coasts they'll indicate a showers all over.

Re: General June Weather
Looks like this June will be one of the warmest on record overall. Also some high rainfalls for the north of both islands, while mostly sunny in the North Island and mostly cloudy in South Island.
Some very preliminary June 2014 temp and rainfall figures for the main centres:
Tauranga Aero and Musselburgh (Dunedin) recorded their warmest June on record and Mangere (Akld) its equal warmest. Ruakura (Hamilton) and Kelburn (Wgtn) recorded their 2nd warmest, Hamilton Aero and Chch Aero their 4th equal warmest and Akld Aero its 5th equal warmest.
Edit: Minor update to Akld Aero & Wgtn rainfalls.

Re: General June Weather
Hard to argue when its clearly happening more often these days. You hear the climate change skeptics say that its happened in the past so it cant be, but there's hardly a year go by now where there's at least one month that's either close or is a new record.Manukau heads obs wrote:more global warming evidence?

Re: General June Weather
Auckland had its sixth warmest June. The June pattern favoured warmer airflows, might be the reverse next June.

Re: General June Weather
yeah, there has been a lack of southerly outbreaks for a while now
(hence ski fields have been lacking snow up till now )
but certainly the trend over the last few years is for warmer than normal months, month after month now
the oceans have been warmer than normal for a while now around the globe
