Re: Northland Radar Updates
It's about 3 km NE of Kaeo at about 385m asl (not quite as high as the Warkworth radar at 452m asl).

Re: Northland Radar Updates
wonder what the hold up is with this one? seems like the BOP one came online much faster once they had it running.

Re: Northland Radar Updates
Agreed, it did. Seem to recall they had issues getting mains on up there. Initial testing was done using the engine alternator.

Re: Northland Radar Updates
Everything about this installation has taken longer, the three previous installs combined were quicker than this one
With this current system in force, would be nice to have the pictures available - instead of having to rely on an occasional tweet from metservice. This is from a tweet at around quarter to nine this morning.

Formal opening is on the 28th of this month - not sure how/if that will correspond with the images being publicly available.

Re: Northland Radar Updates
the rain is from relatively high based cloud...
came over the coromandel ranges today and only the very tops were in the cloud
so hence radar showing up the rain well over the hills of northland

Re: Northland Radar Updates
Me too, knowing that the thing is working but not being able to see it with the weather we have had last week and at present is frustrating in the extreme.
There has been the odd pic posted on twitter and facebook so we know metservice are using it, shouldn't those who are wading around their farms/backyards/kitchens also have some better warning of when more is coming?
(gonna stop ranting now before I really say what I think )

Re: Northland Radar Updates
Probably the radar should be working OK when the anticyclones start moving over the area.?

Re: Northland Radar Updates
We can but hope
A couple of mentions on Facebook and Twitter this morning about how it has been 'blessed', today is the "formal opening", not sure how that coincides with showing the images to the public.
Hopefully might have more info after today - I'm taking a little drive North as I have an invite to the opening.

Re: Northland Radar Updates
I think Jamie was referring to this morning's TVNZ story.
I'm guessing Aug 1st (Friday) for the website update.

Now it's even more confusing
When I visited the site last month they were still waiting for Chorus to hook up the fibre link, were setting up the backup satellite link.

Re: Northland Radar Updates
National radio had a story on it this morning and the deal Met Service did with local Maori for the use of the site.
