I'm told they wont be adding the 120km view to the public website.
They wont...... until there is a significant event that 'encourages them' to do so:
- Canterbury Radar 120km view - Post Chch Earthquake
- BOP Radar 120km view - Grounding of the Rena (from memory)
As an aside, some time back (3+ yrs) I had dialog with the MS, and they were indicating they were looking to launch a "consumer focussed" product to allow access to more detailed and specific data at a reasonable price-point. IMHO - I think they decided Apps for Smartphone’s met the publics needs (sorry - no additional detail for you!), and they don’t want to erode existing revenue streams by offering a cheaper way to access such data.
In saying that, maybe the App approach could be a way where they could provide tightly controlled access to more detailed data?
- An in-App purchase detailed rain radar data - That will be $5.
- Wanna see real time lightning strike information - $1 for a 24/hr period.
Or instead of one-off purchases - a subscription model could be used. Lot of possible options they could use.... Except, would they be happy having someone else (Apple et al) clip the ticket on the way? Hmmmm
