Interesting. The wind is nowhere near as bad as July 2007 in Howick

81mm from this event so far, and not much wind to speak of - even though my house is exposed to a NE breeze.

Wind coming in big sudden heavy gusts here. Nothing huge tho.

I see Tiritiri is still doing in the last hour gusts to 174 and sustained to 155.

Rain now building heavily into western BOP.

Lights flickering intermittently in Glenfield. I'd be feeling smug that my solar SunGenie system will keep me going if the power failed, except with the gloom over the last couple of days, it's barely generated anything.

Lots of fire call outs to roofs off, and it sounds like a ship has come loose in the port. Tugs on way to assist. Lots of noises from my Meter box, meaning no hot water for a few days. Power is trying to go out.

Heavy rain just starting again here. The low centre is very tight and small and is moving down over the coromandel peninsula.

Dang **** has got real here now. Been averaging 50km+ from the east and climbing with gusts now over 70 and climbing. Rain rate at 10mm/h. Makes a raket on the house. Not used to the easterly wind.

Places east of us will be getting it much worse so I fare for those guys.

Sure is loud here, set records for me, average 92km/h and a 118km/h max gust
There is going to be quite a bit of damage around the area I'd say..
The tight low centre looks great on radar

Very strong continuous wind gusts in Titirangi, almost feels like a tornado. 4th firecall. Power dips at the moment.

Far out Ricky that's nasty. Mind you your quite exposed to the east aren't you and at the top of a small hill.

Paeroa is getting some good gusts at the moment. We should see some stronger winds as the low centre moves closer.

Wow incredible. Just had gusts rocking the house on its piles. I woke up to my bed shaking quite strongly. 91.7 the strongest so far. And max average 81.8.

Arching power lines outside my house.

Power out now. Just as it went out I saw on the radar loop we were right on the edge of the low. It's moving right over us. Ie a direct hit.

I have set all new wind records but can be sure what maximums are. I'm simply watching the consol at the moment. Will have to wait for power to see the details.

wow!!!
aukland/coro/gulf sure got hit hard!
windy here but nothing too extreme
(having said that there is road cones on the road here and the fire boys are out so I suspect a tree down)
amazing speeds for urban city areas!
and amazing baro jumps up and down!

also something has gone wrong with my rain gauge...

Lol I have rain rate alarm and wind alarm screaming away. Very heavy rain just now, close to 100mm/h rate. That at the same time as 80km gusts. Sounded like hail on the window.

could be damage to tents at the field days...

went for a drive up road...alot of tree debri on the road...
trees are not used to an east wind

we are behind a hill so I suspect most of this area exposed to the east would have got 120kmh gusts
