Re: Heavy rain event 8-13 June
Last nights wind would be the strongest I can recall in central Auckland. We don't get many gales here anyway.
I saw some flashes but no lightning, would have been power flashes.

Heavy rain event 8-13 June
Lots of power flashes here during the night. Lots right outside my house.
We lost our biggest tree on the farm. It's blocking the road.
Still no power here and don't expect it for a while after those winds.
I'm working at fieldays today. Will report on the mess there. Could be a few detours on my way there

Re: Heavy rain event 8-13 June
Was a rough night here. Some of the strongest winds in recent memory for sure. 83.7 km/hr max gust and max 1 min average of 52.5 km/hr on my station hosted by Gary in Welcome Bay. Around 120mm of rain out of this system so far.
Bummer the rain radar was/is still down, got up a few times to look at it and see what was coming our way. Not a lot of sleep.

Re: Heavy rain event 8-13 June
Looks like no damage here, can't even see any broken twigs/branches on our section. This area missed that major windstorm in the early hours.
Here is my Weather Display graph this morning. It looks like we had 2 low centers cross over us!?

Re: Heavy rain event 8-13 June
Still good fun in Tauranga. Just had a heavy burst go through which took the vis down to around 2000m, maybe even less. Standing water all around the airport, and since I've been up the wind hasn't dropped below 30kts (sitting at 33 as I type this). Makes for a slow day at work...

Re: Heavy rain event 8-13 June
On July 10, 2007, Tiritiri recorded gusts to 180 km/h and there were also reports of 200 km/h on the Coromandel. It caused havoc on Waiheke and we were one of the last to get power restored after 27 hrs. Roofs were lost that night or impaled by flying debris. Doesn't look quite that bad this morning though. But yes, winds appear to have been stronger around Akld city last night.David wrote:Interesting. The wind is nowhere near as bad as July 2007 in HowickNev wrote:Just had a brief blackout. Yep, haven't seen gusts like that here since July 2007.
Total of 88m for this event. Nice to see the sun shining again this morn.

For comparison with David's graph, here's mine from Grey Lynn..
I see the lightning detector was doing a great job of picking up lots of the power line arcing around auckland.

Yes and it clearly shows when other people in the area are getting similar recording as what's in my gauge, the MS recording station is 60-70% less.03Stormchaser wrote:Definitely something wrong with the MS Culverden station.Richard wrote:Up to 80mm here and still raining.
Can anyone get the data from the NIWA Hurunui recording station https://www.google.co.nz/maps/@-42.8975 ... !2e0?hl=en , like to know what that one shows

Re: Heavy rain event 8-13 June
Does anyone have radar data from around the time it passed over AK?
A friend of mine lost two fence segments and a couple of windows, possibly chimney damage too.

Power back on now. Here is a screen shot from my website. Incredible.
On my trip to the fieldays i came across a trampoline on the road and 4 trees. Too many beaches to count and a massive road sign fallen on the road. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: Heavy rain event 8-13 June
amazing vorticity with that low...
but then it did have alot of upper level support with the jet stream wrapping around like it did etc
interesting how the first low that formed over northland fizzled and this new low, that formed just north of Great barrier, then took over. The models were correct with an intense low forming, but were not correct in its location

Re: Heavy rain event 8-13 June
Rubbish! There were no SW'ers in the days either before or after July 10, 2007. Below is Ricky's graph for the 24 hrs to 9am on July 11, 2007 (which is similar to what Akld Aero Metars show). Peak easterly gust of 87 km/h at 7:09pm on the 10th.Michael wrote:Its was worse than jul 10 2007,remember it was southeast all the way that day,we got the beasterly then worse the SW after 4am
