I grabbed this radar image at 2:19am from around the time of the second wind peak, a doppler image would certainly be interesting!

Re: Heavy rain event 8-13 June
You misread what I wrote,1st phrase about today being worse than 2007 then said on "that"day it was southeast all the way then back as today beasterlies (E) then after 4am worse SW.
Nev wrote:Rubbish! There were no SW'ers in the days either before or after July 10, 2007. Below is Ricky's graph for the 24 hrs to 9am on July 11, 2007 (which is similar to what Akld Aero Metars show). Peak easterly gust of 87 km/h at 7:09pm on the 10th.Michael wrote:Its was worse than jul 10 2007,remember it was southeast all the way that day,we got the beasterly then worse the SW after 4am

I wish I was able to screen grab at 5am. Pitty I lost power. Would have been good for records.

Weatherzone radar image is not aligned correctly, i.e. the map overlay and the precip intensity overlay don't match upManukau heads obs wrote:must have moved quickly SW from that point !

I saw tree damage down at Eastern Beach late morning, plus a coating of sand across the road. A lovely day today. I just love a sunny day after a soaking of rain

Re: Heavy rain event 8-13 June
Well, I've lived in my house for 18 years, and that was the scariest weather event I've ever experienced. Not sure if the topography of my subdivision was funnelling the wind somewhat, but I really thought I was going to lose the roof at one point - around 2am I think. It's the first time I've experienced the "jet engine" noise people describe with storms. It really sounded like a commercial jet going over, that deep rumble, but it was continuous for over an hour. I'm on poles at the front and that's the side of the house exposed to the wind. The place was shaking furiously.
Bizarrely, this morning, despite all the crashing and banging, the only thing that went over on my property was a tall potted plant on the deck. Further up the hill things were worse - the top of the street was down to one lane with manuka trees down all over the other. On the short drive to school there was also a fence laying flat on someone's lawn and a house with a huge pine down over their driveway - looks like it missed their front wall by a metre or less. General small branch and leaf debris everywhere. My sister, a few streets away, lost a portion of her shed roof and my parents, who are just around the corner, woke up with a tree from the neighbour's property laying on their front lawn.
Am now propping my eyes open with matchsticks at work, since I only got to sleep at 3am when it died right down.

Wow, glad no one was under that as it went over. Bought back some memories of a similar incident on SH36 that didn't end well

Heavy rain event 8-13 June
I can see us getting another 20mm tonight, easily. Looks like a lot more yet to come over night.
It's all developing and growing since this afternoon.

We have had 50mm since 9pm. Still going.
Should be some flooding today. Yesterday the ground soaked the water well but this will be too much I think.
Hearing big rumbles at the moment. Not sure where the thunder is coming from exactly. There has been sporadic thunder throughout the night.

Wow I'm starting to see a lot of flooding. This could be on par with Feb 2004 or what ever year that Feb was.

Still rumbling here, but getting distant. 5-7 km. Have been relly lucky so far with that mix line of torrential rain. Was very linear looking in the BOP 120km 6.45am scan.

Re: Heavy rain event 8-13 June
Looking like that slow moving front will give persistent heavy rain (risk thunder and small hail) western BOP today. Might catch some rain in Auckland later in the day.
