Unread post by Talbotm »

Just wondering what people are seeing with this incoming southerly system. Looks to be in 2 fronts and going by the latest maps the Precip has picked up quite abit. Thoughts????

If the airmass was cold enough to consistently snow down to 300m you could have got around 30cm talbot but the simple fact it isn't (unless the models change in the next 24 hours or a warm advection event takes place). Both a possibility I guess but i'm not getting my hopes up!

Kinda similar now this setup for Christchurch compared to May last year which saw some decent snowfalls in the Port Hills, probably a tad warmer though then that event. ...the wait continues for a real winter blast to come through, to date this year Christchurch has only had 2 days where the max was below 10C, just crazy!!

I would just take everything with a grain of salt right now, as others have said, look past the models.. and my 2 cents.. look out the windows at the sky, it tells the story.
FC for today here was heavy cold showers picking up.. right now & for the last couple of hours we have been basking in mid winter sunshine with a lot of people around, battening down for a hyped up predicted blast from hell..

8c max tomorrow with squally hail.. cool, literally. According to M/S.. will believe it when I see it :)

I did see that low forming deano. It could make it very interesting if it develops into something. As it could turn the system into more of a Easterly and fire it back onto the south island. Unlikely how ever but certainly one to watch

i see on the rain radar a few heavy showers offshore from ashburton tonight, possibly hail and maybe some lightning in there, perhaps sea surface temps are getting storms fireing offshore, wouldnt surprise me with such spring like conditions we are having lately.

Yup, definitely seems to be the way: Yet another beautiful snowless morning here.

No snow is good snow.

And some more welcome news:

Some large and turbulent-looking clouds to the east of here, marching northwards quite briskly.
