better weather/culture, and people in my opinion

central otago is always going to be home to me.
You are a poor visitors guide. I grew up in Otago and I find your thinking very ignorant

A photo from my trip to Te Anau today. Rest of the photos were too big, can't be bothered editing at the moment. Started snowing quiet heavily at Mossburn then continued throughout until about 15mins outside Te Anau where there was no hint of snow at all, very cold though.

Photo is from the Gorge Hill Pass in which the elevation is 417m, travel was slow.

i see precip starting to drift into north otago onshore abit more, perhaps this is telling sign of wind direction change?
Banks peninsula is getting hammerd!

Interesting to see if it intensifies as it moves north of Timaru

indeed! the metuvw did hint of increase precip from midnight and quite a reasonable amount in early hours, so i wouldnt be ruling ashburton out of anything.

On the flight into chc tonight the planes flight info displayed the following temps: at 2000m it said it was -7c, at about 850m it was -1c. Didn't seem as cold for snow as I would have thought.

Had a shower of rain thismorning. Now it's all frozen. Very thick ice on the cars with frozen shut doors.

Snow has settled to around 250m on the cashmere Hills in Victoria Park, as evidenced by my early morning viewing today. So the Metservice was about spot on

Forested mountains make it hard to see but widespread if not practically heavy sprinkle around this morning. Some quick shots out the office window. Mt Maugatautari, The Pureora Range and Mt Pirongia.
