A photo from my trip to Te Anau today. Rest of the photos were too big, can't be bothered editing at the moment. Started snowing quiet heavily at Mossburn then continued throughout until about 15mins outside Te Anau where there was no hint of snow at all, very cold though.
Photo is from the Gorge Hill Pass in which the elevation is 417m, travel was slow.

indeed! the metuvw did hint of increase precip from midnight and quite a reasonable amount in early hours, so i wouldnt be ruling ashburton out of anything.Deano wrote:Interesting to see if it intensifies as it moves north of Timarumikestormchaser wrote:i see precip starting to drift into north otago onshore abit more, perhaps this is telling sign of wind direction change?

Patchy cloud above the high country, and no action of any kind.

Getting more frequent showers with graupel, last few ones had big snowflakes in them.

On the flight into chc tonight the planes flight info displayed the following temps: at 2000m it said it was -7c, at about 850m it was -1c. Didn't seem as cold for snow as I would have thought.

Dry all night here in Rangiora and got down to 4.5C so not to cold.
Should be another nice sunny day out this way again

Had a shower of rain thismorning. Now it's all frozen. Very thick ice on the cars with frozen shut doors.

wintry looking showers coming in here
looks like would be snow at higher altitude
cool...bits of ice in the rain drops splattering on the window

Snow has settled to around 250m on the cashmere Hills in Victoria Park, as evidenced by my early morning viewing today. So the Metservice was about spot on

Forested mountains make it hard to see but widespread if not practically heavy sprinkle around this morning. Some quick shots out the office window. Mt Maugatautari, The Pureora Range and Mt Pirongia.jamie wrote:Plenty of visible snow on my pirongia. Looks down to about 600-700m
