General August weather
Just glanced the GFS 15 day model and pressures look relatively high over NZ. Its just model output at this stage but the drier weather would be good.

Re: General August weather
Been very dry round these parts this month with only 11mm here in Rangiora but another dry month would be great.

Re: General August weather
Lots of lightning just south of the South Island atm. The jet stream is in a favourable position to lift the air down there helping the front to be more active.

Re: General August weather
Certainly is active atm
Quite a significant amount of strike's have repeat lead and return stroke characteristics, which is fairly common in an active cold frontal system.

Lots of flashes looking to the west of Invercargill but still a clear night for the city at the moment.

Re: General August weather
Cold front still going strong, Lightning wise.....
The Upper level jet is fairly pronounced in the latest WV Sat images, the EH-IR images show the tops are quite cold.
Invercargill's Radar problems are being fully shown tonight, extremely weak echoes (they are much higher than what the radar is coming up with)!

Re: General August weather
Are you still backing what you said about my hutt having a metre of snow by mid next week? For that to happen they would need a metre to fall seeing as they have pretty much lost everythingBradley wrote:I wish I coukd say some huge cold snap is on it's way after this record warmth but there is nothing on the horizon at all...

Invercargills warm 30C days are not reflected in the average Summer maximums , average maximums there being below 19C.

When I was living down there, locals I talked to didn't like being told In'gill had the lowest recorded sunshine average of NZ towns - something I found out at quite a young age.spwill wrote: A cool 19C in Auckland is still warmer than the average Summer maximums in Invercargill
