Yes Lovely day today, usually these sunny days come with a SW wind, but the wind was quite mild

Low cloud again here, though its clear sky towards Hanmer Springs,so i reckon there should be a lot more sun than yesterday .

Re: General August weather
Down to 7.7 degrees or so overnight, the good weather should last over the 3 days or so over the Waikato at least with the ridge not wanting to move much.
Upper level dynamics could lead to some storms later on this week due to favourable moisture and relative sfc temp rise assoc with a northern airmass.
Will have to keep an eye on model development....
Yes I mentioned that in the MetOcean Weather Meetings @ work.GFS output for end of week. Significant jet stream to our north.

Re: General August weather
Very spring like today. I note that i am currently recording rather dry air, yet there is plenty of cloud around. Seems a bit odd to have cloud and yet have dryer than usual air.

Re: General August weather
More gales to look forward to out in the Gulf by about Saturday, with Auckland's wettest day probably on Sunday. Here's today's Severe Outlook for the weekend...
MetService - Severe Weather Outlook
Issued: 2:47pm Thursday 28 Aug 2014
Valid from Saturday 30 August 2014 to Tuesday 2 September 2014
A low pressure system is expected to approach northern New Zealand from the northwest during Saturday, then move over the North Island during Sunday and Monday. A strong and moist northeast flow preceding the low pressure system is likely to bring a period of heavy rain and northeasterly gales to upper North Island regions during the period.
For Northland, there is moderate confidence that rainfall accumulations will approach warning criteria from Saturday to Monday. While for Auckland and the Coromandel Peninsula during Sunday, and for the Bay of Plenty and northern Gisborne from Sunday to Monday, confidence is low to moderate that there will be significant amounts of heavy rain.
Additionally, there is a low probability that northeasterly gales will reach severe gale strength in exposed areas of Northland, Auckland and the Coromandel Peninsula in the period from Saturday to Sunday.

Re: General August weather
GFS showing around 150mm in the east of northern Northland, and will likely be higher with orographic effects!
Forecast only shows around 30mm for Auckland city

Re: General August weather
Could be some localised downpours from Cb in the weather mix for Northland as well.

Re: General August weather
Nice pic!
A few signs of summer around these parts yesterday, a few fluffy clouds up against the foothills. Nothing big at all but they just had a different look to them. Roll on spring

Re: General August weather
Looks like the front coming into Northland late Saturday and over Auckland Sunday.
Looks like some severe weather risk with the front over Northland, gales/localised downpours.
